October 2011 - What is Your EUI?

posted Sep 27, 2011, 7:37 AM by Northern Indiana ASHRAE ASHRAE   [ updated Mar 26, 2012, 6:41 AM ]
Energy Efficiency related to buildings has shifted to overall site measurement of energy consumption and the potential of this consumption on source energy efficiency. This presentation explains the complicated process of overall building energy efficiency, how this relates to DOE standards, and how this is related to other elements including potential Carbon Indexing (or Carbon Taxation). Closely tied to this discussion will be a brief overview of ASHRAE Standard 189.1 due to the characteristics of this standard and its impact on EUI.

Presenting on this topic will be Professor Doug Zentz.  Mr. Zentz teaches junior and senior level HVAC system design for commercial buildings, including secondary hydronic system design and commercial air side system design at Ferris State University.  Additionally, he teaches the senior capstone design class.  A total of eight different student groups from this class have been recognized by ASHRAE in the annual international student competition.

Prior to teaching, Doug held several positions in the HVAC community in the Metro Detroit area for approximately 23 years.  This includes over 18 years as a commercial/industrial Trane salesman and 2 years working for a design build contractor.  He was also part owner in a design-consulting firm for over 6 years that did private mechanical/HVAC work in the industrial market of Metro Detroit.  From these experiences, he brings real-world application to his teaching and presentations.

As always, our meetings are open to all comers: members, non-members, engineers and non-engineers!  Please come and joins us!
